RESEARCHING THE SAN
The South African San Council believes that research in our communities is of the utmost importance for the betterment of the people, but for years the San have been subject to exploitation from researchers. To protect our people from future exploitation, the San Council asks researchers first to read and understand the San Code of Research Ethics.
APPLYING FOR ETHICAL CLEARANCE
If you're a researcher looking to study the San communities, you must first apply for ethical clearance. You can apply through our online application or download the application form as a PDF document. The completed document must be sent to director@sancouncilsa.org. Once the office reviews your application, you will be notified and further steps can be taken.
THE LITTLE BLACK BOOK
The San Council will always support researchers that work with honesty and fairness towards the San people. We encourage researchers to work with us and help us find solutions to better the lives of our people.

In the past, there have been instances where researchers tried to bypass the organisation and used vulnerable San community members for selfish gain. Thus, the San Council established consequences for those who followed the same route. In the future, anyone who does not operate through the proper channels will be publically and permanently called out in the "little black book".
