OUR STORY

The South African San Council was established in 2001 as a community-based organisation when the San people were declared extinct by the CSIR.

The CSIR wanted to use the Hoodia plant for research based on the knowledge of the San Peoples.

The San Council was registered as an NPO in 2011. The Council represents the San Peoples of South Africa by promoting and protecting their rights through legal advice, coordination of development programmes, awareness raising and monitoring. The South African San Council is based on the following values: honesty, fairness, respect, care, justice, and process.
